Job Overview: The internship in the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO) in Ecuador is designed to provide practical experience in the field of communication and promotion within the UN system. The internship will last for a duration of 6 months, and candidates may be selected throughout the posting period based on the needs of the Office. Interns will work under the supervision of the Communication and Promotion Officer, and their daily responsibilities will vary depending on their individual background and the specific internship period. The role is pivotal in supporting the implementation of communication policies and enhancing the visibility of UN activities in Ecuador through various social media platforms and events.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall communication strategy of the RCO. These duties include: providing support in the implementation of communication policies across social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flickr, and TikTok; assisting in the generation of content and publications for these networks; responding to messages, comments, and shares; analyzing social media metrics and monitoring digital trends; organizing events, workshops, and training sessions; proposing improvements to the digital strategy; coordinating with influencers and creating content; maintaining and updating a database for email invitations; implementing inter-agency communication products like joint campaigns and newsletters; monitoring digital media for relevant issues; adjusting fan pages as needed; and contributing to quarterly reports on social media performance.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and possess the ability to draft news articles and social media posts.
Educational Background: Candidates should be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.
Experience: While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.
