Job Overview: The position of Intern - Monitoring and Evaluation at IOM Gambia involves contributing to the implementation of the 'Migrant Protection Return and Reintegration for Sub-Saharan Africa (MPRR-SSA)' initiative. The successful candidate will work under the overall supervision of the AVRR Programme Officer and the direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the governance of migration, managing migration data, and conducting monitoring and evaluation activities. This role requires active participation in the day-to-day implementation of direct assistance, reintegration assistance, and awareness-raising activities. The intern will also assist in developing new monitoring and evaluation tools and will be responsible for documenting and filing beneficiary information in a database, ensuring regular updates and accurate reporting. The position is designed to provide valuable experience in the field of migration management and evaluation, with a focus on supporting vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for providing overall monitoring support to IOM Gambia, which includes:
Assisting in the implementation of direct assistance and reintegration activities under the MPRR-SSA initiative.
Supporting the development of new monitoring and evaluation tools in collaboration with the country office's monitoring and evaluation and information management units.
Reviewing the conditions of the business plan related to the AVRR program and identifying issues or discrepancies based on monitoring activities.
Conducting field visits to beneficiaries' business sites and communities to assess the impact of reintegration support.
Documenting and maintaining a database of beneficiaries, ensuring regular updates of their information.
Preparing and submitting monthly monitoring reports in a timely manner.
Assisting in the assessment of qualitative and quantitative impacts of grants and community projects.
Supporting data cleaning and the preparation of monitoring and evaluation reports, with attention to disaggregated gender, age, and vulnerability data.
Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree program in development studies, social science, law, humanitarian affairs, or a related field (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in an advanced tertiary education program with relevant working experience in the advertised position.
Graduates with a university degree or a tertiary diploma are also eligible to apply.
Candidates should possess excellent writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Kobo Collect tool, and Visio is considered an advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in a university degree program related to development studies, social sciences, law, or humanitarian affairs. Candidates should ideally be in their final academic year or have graduated with a relevant degree or diploma. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of migration issues and the necessary skills for monitoring and evaluation tasks.

Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in one of the local languages. Knowledge of French is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, although those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the assignment, but does not offer evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational incidents. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work.
