Job Overview: The IT and Telecommunications Officer position at WFP is crucial for supporting the delivery of efficient IT and telecommunications services that enable staff to provide food assistance to beneficiaries. The role involves budgeting, planning, and deploying IT systems that align with business needs while adhering to WFP corporate standards. The officer will be responsible for maintaining IT systems and networks, ensuring data security, and providing user support to maximize the benefits of these systems. The officer will also play a key role in training staff and guiding junior team members, ensuring that the IT and telecommunications services are effectively utilized across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the IT and Telecommunications Officer include:
Supporting the budgeting, planning, and deployment of IT and telecommunications systems aligned with business needs.
Maintaining IT and telecommunications systems and networks, ensuring data security and access controls.
Installing and configuring new computer hardware to improve system performance.
Supporting technology upgrades as required.
Providing data and documentation for the procurement of IT/TC equipment and services.
Preparing accurate reports on IT/TC investments and costs for stakeholder decision-making.
Developing technical skills and knowledge, and building awareness of industry developments.
Responding to user queries and resolving issues while ensuring compliance with IT policies and procedures.
Guiding junior staff and supporting them with analysis and queries. 1
Organizing training programs to enhance staff skills in IT and telecommunications. 1
Coordinating with other UN agencies for inter-agency collaboration in IT and telecommunications. 1
Following emergency preparedness and contingency planning practices to maintain IT services during crises. 1
Delivering resource requirements at the onset of emergencies and performing other duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the IT and Telecommunications Officer position include:
Advanced university degree in Computer Science or a relevant field, or a first university degree with additional years of related work experience or training.
At least one year of progressively responsible experience in user support activities, ensuring timely and high-quality service delivery.
Experience in assisting with the specification, development, research, and evaluation of client standards.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Familiarity with IT and telecommunications systems and networks, as well as data security protocols.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Computer Science or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree combined with additional years of relevant work experience or specialized training in IT and telecommunications is acceptable. Continuous professional development through relevant courses or certifications is also beneficial.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience in IT and telecommunications, particularly in user support roles. Candidates should have a proven track record of delivering high-quality services to users, including those in emergency operations. Experience in developing and evaluating client standards is also important, as is the ability to adapt to new technologies and industry trends.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with a level C proficiency. If the duty station's language differs from English, fluency in that language is also required. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
