Job Overview:
The WASH Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in achieving the objectives of the WASH project by coordinating with various stakeholders, including the National Project Officer (NPO), site management, implementing partners, and government counterparts. The position requires the development and execution of effective work plans that comply with IOM policies and procedures. The coordinator will assist in creating action plans for the timely implementation of WASH activities, ensuring that community participation and ownership are prioritized. Regular field visits will be conducted to monitor project quality, provide feedback, and prepare progress reports using Kobo monitoring tools. The coordinator will also participate in needs assessments and coordination meetings to ensure alignment with community needs and project goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute towards achieving the WASH project objectives in coordination with NPO, Site Management, implementing partners, and government counterparts.
  • Support implementing partners in developing effective work plans and executing them in accordance with IOM policy and procedures.
  • Assist NPO in developing plans of action for the timely and successful implementation of WASH activities in consultation with implementing partners.
  • Promote community participation and ownership through engaging beneficiary communities and ensuring that capacity development and monitoring activities reflect coverage and prioritized needs.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project areas, ensuring quality of work and providing feedback for improvement to implementing partners and vendors.
  • Prepare progress reports using Kobo monitoring tools.
  • Participate in WASH needs assessments in coordination with beneficiaries and other organizations.
  • Attend camp coordination meetings and WASH biweekly/monthly coordination meetings, updating key discussions and decisions to WASH management.
  • Maintain effective collaboration with local administration and stakeholders to achieve program objectives. 1
  • Ensure all technical records are prepared and maintained by partners according to IOM and Government of Bangladesh guidelines. 1
  • Implement the WASH project monitoring and evaluation plan in coordination with the M&E officer to measure progress on qualitative and quantitative indicators. 1
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor and head of the sub-office.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a completed university degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a relevant field from an accredited institution, along with at least three years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a school diploma with at least five years of relevant experience is acceptable. Candidates should have experience in medium to large-scale construction and community-based projects, as well as working with local communities and national entities. Experience in construction, borehole drilling, and WASH activity supervision is essential. Work experience with international humanitarian organizations or NGOs in a multicultural setting is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate strong coordination, monitoring, evaluation, analytical, project development, liaison, and reporting skills, along with excellent drafting and communication skills in both Bangla and English.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a completed university degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a school diploma with significant relevant experience is acceptable. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in the principles of engineering or environmental science as they relate to WASH projects.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least three years of experience in relevant fields, particularly in participating in medium to large-scale construction and community-based projects. Experience working with local communities and national entities is crucial. Additionally, candidates should have experience in supervising and monitoring WASH activities, as well as working with international humanitarian organizations or NGOs in a multicultural environment. The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is essential, along with strong teamwork and independent working skills.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Bangla is required for this position. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills in both languages, as effective interaction with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and team members is critical for the success of the WASH project.
