Job Overview: The Associate RST/RSD Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the operational capacity of UNHCR and its governmental partner, the Commission for Refugees (COR), in Sudan. The Associate Officer will also engage with national authorities to strengthen asylum systems and provide legal and procedural advice to staff and partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate RST/RSD Officer include providing legal and procedural advice on RSD/RST issues, supporting engagement with national authorities, fostering capacity building through training and coaching, assisting in the development of RST/RSD strategies, and ensuring the integration of these strategies into the overall protection framework. The incumbent will guide the identification and assessment of resettlement needs, monitor compliance with procedural standards, and ensure the quality of case submissions. Additionally, the role involves maintaining communication with resettlement countries, producing analytical reports, and contributing to the prevention of fraud in resettlement activities. The Associate Officer will also be responsible for supervising staff and ensuring that the needs of vulnerable populations are prioritized in all operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree, two years with a graduate degree, or one year with a doctorate. Essential qualifications include in-depth knowledge of International Refugee Law, Human Rights Law, and Humanitarian Law, as well as experience in individual case management and counselling asylum-seekers. Desirable qualifications include experience as a decision-maker in RSD procedures, legal representation for asylum seekers, and supervisory experience. Completion of relevant UNHCR Learning Programmes is also preferred, along with a sound understanding of UNHCR's policies and strategic priorities.
