Job Overview:
The International Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Human Rights and Non-Discrimination Section of UN Women in Geneva. This position involves providing targeted analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis and insights to advance gender equality within various intergovernmental processes. The consultant will be responsible for delivering high-quality technical inputs that strengthen the integration of gender equality and women's rights in discussions at key forums such as the Human Rights Council, WHO, and ILO. The role requires monitoring developments in intergovernmental meetings, preparing gender-focused policy analyses, and drafting outcome documents that align with UN Women's mandate. The consultant will also coordinate and support the Advisory Board on Gender Equality, ensuring that gender-responsive analysis is embedded in strategic documents and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Intergovernmental Support: Provide high-quality technical inputs to enhance the integration of gender equality in intergovernmental processes. Deliver expert analysis and recommendations during negotiations and meetings, preparing briefing notes and summaries that reflect a gender-responsive perspective. Monitor and document developments in key meetings, preparing gender-focused policy analyses and reports with strategic recommendations. Support the drafting of outcome documents and statements led by UN Women.
  • Coordination and Technical Support: Provide coordination and technical support for UN Women’s human rights engagement in Geneva, focusing on the Advisory Board’s work plan. Prepare agendas, synthesize discussions, and track progress toward deliverables. Develop targeted inputs for strategic documents, ensuring alignment with international human rights standards. Identify initiatives in emerging areas such as digital rights and climate justice. Organize high-level briefings and workshops for diverse audiences. Conduct background research and synthesize findings into policy briefs and reports.
  • Deliverables: Develop a gender-responsive glossary, conduct mapping of data and commitments related to human rights and gender equality, create training modules, and provide technical inputs to resolutions of intergovernmental bodies.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of intergovernmental processes related to human rights and gender equality. Candidates should possess technical expertise in international human rights law and gender equality, with a good grasp of gender-related issues in intergovernmental contexts. Strong research, analytical, and writing skills are essential, along with the ability to maintain diplomacy and confidentiality with partners. Candidates should demonstrate innovation and problem-solving capabilities.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in Gender/Women’s Studies, Human Rights, Political or Social Science, Economics, International Development Studies, Technology, or Health is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with five additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in technical support, policy analysis, or stakeholder engagement related to gender equality and women's empowerment. Experience in coordinating with Member States and UN agencies is desirable, along with excellent analytical skills and the ability to work independently.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Spanish is required for this position. Knowledge of French or any other UN official language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in diverse international contexts.
