Job Overview: The National Professional Officer (Communication) position is crucial for the effective communication of WHO's health initiatives and strategies in the West Bank and Gaza. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communication and advocacy strategy that aligns with the health development agendas of Member States. This role involves coordinating with various health sector partners, representing the health sector in UN communication teams, and ensuring that health-related topics are effectively communicated to diverse audiences. The officer will also be tasked with creating content for various platforms, including social media, press releases, and public health campaigns, to promote WHO's work and achievements in emergency prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Professional Officer (Communication) include:
Supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of a communication/advocacy strategy and action plan for WHO in the West Bank and Gaza.
Coordinating communication partnerships with health sector partners and representing the health sector in UN communication teams.
Identifying health-related topics of interest and promoting WHO's response operations in the country.
Planning and developing content for various target audiences, including policymakers, donors, and the public.
Mapping information products for different audiences and coordinating the development and dissemination of bulletins and situation reports.
Developing and implementing public health campaigns related to technical programs.
Ensuring effective dissemination of information through various channels, including press, web, and social media.
Organizing press exposure opportunities and maintaining relationships with media representatives.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the National Professional Officer (Communication) position include:
A university degree (Bachelor's level) in communication, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field.
At least 2 years of professional experience in communication activities, media relations, and message development.
Proven skills in producing engaging written materials such as brochures and reports.
Knowledge of WHO's mission and work, as well as practices related to communication.
Proficiency in standard software applications and multimedia skills, including experience with video editing and graphic design software.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree at the Bachelor's level in communication, public relations, journalism, or a related field. An additional degree in any of these areas is desirable, indicating a higher level of expertise and commitment to the field of communication.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in communication, particularly in arranging information sharing, media relations, and developing communication strategies. Experience in health communications and working with international organizations is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of communicating health-related information in diverse contexts.
Languages: Expert knowledge of English and Arabic is essential for this position. Proficiency in both languages is necessary to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including policymakers, health professionals, and the general public. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a National Professional Officer role, meaning that only applications from nationals of Israel will be accepted. The remuneration for this position includes an annual base salary starting at ILS 269,618, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to 30 days of annual leave.
