Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Health Specialist – Community Health at UNICEF Zambia, providing essential programmatic and administrative support for the training and upskilling of the community health workforce. This role is crucial in implementing a comprehensive training program for Community Health Workers (CHWs) as part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing health services at the community level. The volunteer will assist in coordinating training sessions, developing training plans, and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting of training activities. The position requires a proactive approach to liaising with various stakeholders, including implementing partners and government entities, to facilitate the successful execution of the community health workforce development program.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: coordinating and managing CHW training sessions, developing training and monitoring plans, liaising with implementing partners, preparing training budgets and financial reports, maintaining databases of trained volunteers, monitoring the distribution of training materials, and preparing quarterly work plans and progress reports. The role also involves assisting in financial planning and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements related to the community health workforce development program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's core values of equity, inclusion, and integrity. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented, culturally sensitive, and proactive in their approach to work. Experience in program management or health-related fields is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of community health initiatives.
Educational Background: A degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in community health or program management will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health systems and community health worker programs.
Experience: The position requires prior experience in program support, preferably within the health sector or with international organizations. Experience working with community health programs or in a volunteer capacity is highly valued. Familiarity with financial management and reporting processes is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF and the local context. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zambia would be an advantage, enhancing communication with community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position with UNICEF, and the duration of the contract may vary. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to the values and mission of UNICEF. The living conditions in Lusaka are generally favorable, with access to basic amenities, although some adjustments may be necessary for expatriates.
