Job Overview:
The Monitoring Assistant position at WFP Zambia is crucial for supporting the implementation of the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) which commenced in July 202
  • This role involves developing and executing a monitoring strategy that focuses on the effectiveness of WFP's programs in Zambia. The Monitoring Assistant will work closely with the Head of Field Office and the Research Assessment and Monitoring unit to ensure accurate data collection and reporting on beneficiary reach and the quality of program implementation. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government institutions and cooperating partners, to enhance the monitoring frameworks and ensure that WFP's interventions align with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Monitoring Assistant will also be responsible for designing data collection tools and maintaining databases to track beneficiaries and project activities, thereby contributing to WFP's mission of providing effective humanitarian assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Monitoring Assistant will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Developing a comprehensive monitoring strategy for the field office that outlines the monitoring activities, coverage, and capacity development initiatives for implementing partners.
  • Collaborating with the M&E Officer and internal counterparts to ensure accurate and timely data collection and recording.
  • Supporting the development of monitoring frameworks, including logical frameworks and theories of change.
  • Conducting field monitoring exercises, including spot checks and process monitoring for food assistance programs.
  • Maintaining a detailed database of beneficiaries for each project and updating it monthly.
  • Designing data collection tools using mobile applications and training research assistants during various monitoring studies.
  • Consolidating output data from monitoring partners and conducting Data Quality Assessments (DQA).
  • Establishing community feedback and complaints systems to gather insights from beneficiaries and partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mathematics, Sociology, Social Development, Development Economics, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have strong analytical skills and the ability to translate numerical data into meaningful insights that demonstrate WFP's impact. Familiarity with UN policies and procedures is advantageous, as is the ability to communicate effectively with government and partner organizations.

Educational Background:
A university degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mathematics, Sociology, Social Development, Development Economics, or Performance Management is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding complex data analysis and monitoring frameworks essential for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in Monitoring and Evaluation. Candidates should have extensive experience in developing monitoring frameworks, data collection tools, and facilitating training sessions. Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, as well as experience with software such as SPSS, STATA, R, NVivo, MAXQDA, or ATLAS.ti, is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
