Interns will work closely with the leadership of the Staff Union, including the President and Vice Presidents, to support various administrative functions. This role is particularly suited for students or recent graduates who are looking to supplement their academic studies with hands-on experience in an international organization. Interns will be involved in a range of activities, from maintaining digital platforms to assisting in the organization of events and campaigns, thereby providing a comprehensive understanding of the operational aspects of the UNSU.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that contribute to the overall functioning of the UNSU. These include:
  • Assisting the Staff Union Leadership in implementing programs and initiatives.
  • Maintaining and updating the Staff Union's websites and social media channels to ensure effective communication with members.
  • Supporting the organization of meetings, events, and campaigns, which may involve logistical planning and coordination.
  • Helping staff with registration processes for memberships, including those for the staff union, gym, and legal plan services.
  • Processing staff enrollment and cancellation applications, ensuring that all relevant files and systems are updated accordingly.
  • Conducting research in various fields, such as the administration of justice and comparative studies of international organizations, to support the Union's initiatives.
  • Evaluating surveys and processing statistical data to inform decision-making.
  • Assisting with graphic design tasks and messaging for promotional materials.
  • Responding to inquiries from constituents via phone, email, and in-person visits. 1
  • Researching topics for information sessions and assisting in scheduling events and activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study that is closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Skills in drafting news articles and social media posts, as well as designing surveys and polls, are desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic foundation to engage with the tasks and responsibilities of the internship effectively.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include studies in financial management, public administration, international relations, or related fields that would provide a solid understanding of the UN's operations and financial procedures.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
This internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months and is not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. For in-person internships in the United States, non-citizens or permanent residents must obtain a G-4 visa for full-time internships. Interns on non-immigrant student visas (F-1 or J-1) may only intern on a part-time basis. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. Additionally, the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
