Job Overview:
The Midwife Mentor position is crucial for enhancing the quality of midwifery-led Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char. The role involves mentoring national midwives, midwife coordinators, and supervisors, as well as collaborating with doctors to ensure evidence-based, respectful midwifery care. The mentor will conduct field visits, provide training, and support midwives in delivering comprehensive SRH services, focusing on maternal health and emergency care. The position requires a proactive approach to capacity development, advocacy, and partnership building within health facilities, ensuring that midwives are equipped to meet the needs of refugee and host community women and girls.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Capacity Development: Conduct regular field visits to health facilities to oversee and support midwives and clinical coordinators. Provide training and mentorship to enhance the quality of SRH services, focusing on maternal health. Assess challenges in the enabling environment and communicate with relevant support systems. Facilitate midwives in expanding their services and participate in SRH working groups. Develop guidelines for SRH care and build midwives' capacity for emergency stabilization and routine maternity care. Coordinate training sessions on comprehensive SRHR and integrate SRH with GBV and data interventions.
  • Advocacy and Partnership: Advocate for evidence-based, respectful adolescent-friendly midwifery services within facilities. Collaborate with partners to synergize SRH care and contribute to SRH working group meetings.
  • Project/Programme Management Support: Assist in implementing SRH programs with partners, assess SRH needs, and develop protocols for various areas of care. Coach midwives and healthcare providers to strengthen SRH priorities and provide inputs for situational reports. Conduct monitoring visits to track barriers and progress in service delivery.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess advanced university degrees in midwifery, nursing, medicine, or equivalent qualifications recognized by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM). They should have at least 2 years of full-scope clinical midwifery experience, along with mentoring and training experience. Technical knowledge of current developments in sexual and reproductive health care is essential, as well as strong expertise in capacity development. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, communication, networking, and negotiation skills, and be proficient in using computers and office software packages.

Educational Background:
The position requires advanced university degrees in midwifery, nursing, medicine, or qualifications that meet the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) standards. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of midwifery and reproductive health care, particularly in low-resource settings.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of full-scope clinical midwifery experience. This experience should include mentoring and training roles, as well as a strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health care developments. Familiarity with healthcare in low-resource settings is also important, particularly in reproductive health areas.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset. This linguistic proficiency is essential for effective communication within the diverse UNFPA environment and for engaging with various stakeholders.
