Job Overview:
The Buyer position is situated within the Department of Management’s Division of General Services (MTGS) at the IAEA. The primary responsibility of the Buyer is to manage the procurement cycle for a designated assortment of merchandise, ensuring that stock levels are maintained in accordance with customer preferences and the IAEA Headquarters Agreement. The Buyer will work under the supervision of the Unit Head (Procurement and Invoice Control) and is expected to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by maintaining a competitive and high-quality assortment of goods. This role requires continuous market research and stock management to avoid out-of-stock situations, particularly during seasonal fluctuations in demand. The Buyer will also be responsible for evaluating supplier offers and ensuring compliance with procurement policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Buyer will be fully responsible for the complete procurement cycle of the assigned assortment. This includes managing orders, conducting ongoing market research, and maintaining stock levels with respect to minimum quantities, order frequencies, reorder quantities, and expiry dates of goods. The Buyer must ensure that orders placed are accurate and will exercise delegated signatory power for purchase orders up to EUR 10,00
  • Additionally, the Buyer will streamline the assortment based on best commercial practices, ensuring high turnover of stock items while avoiding slow-moving and obsolete stock. The role also involves evaluating and comparing supplier offers based on various criteria such as price, quality, and reliability. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary education, with post-secondary education in business administration, economics, or a related field being highly desirable. A minimum of five years of relevant working experience in retail or wholesale procurement is required. Candidates should possess advanced IT skills, particularly in MS Office applications, and have a thorough understanding of procurement methods and business administration principles. Familiarity with the consumer goods market is essential, along with accuracy in data management and administrative support.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes completed secondary education, with a preference for candidates who have pursued post-secondary education in business administration, economics, or a similar field. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of procurement and inventory management within the context of the IAEA's operations.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of relevant working experience in retail or wholesale procurement. This experience should encompass a comprehensive understanding of the procurement cycle, supplier evaluation, and inventory management, which are critical for ensuring the effective operation of the Commissary Management Section.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the German language is considered an asset, and familiarity with other official IAEA languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish is also advantageous. Proficiency in these languages will enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the role.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 57,876, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual vacation, a pension plan, and health insurance.
