Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lima is part of the global network of UNICs, which operates under the Campaigns and Country Operations Division. Established to enhance the United Nations' outreach and communication efforts, UNICs play a crucial role in disseminating information about the UN's work and initiatives to the public, particularly in developing countries. They engage with media, educational institutions, and local civil society organizations to promote understanding and support for the UN's objectives. UNICs maintain libraries and electronic resources, ensuring that information is accessible in various languages. The Lima office specifically focuses on reaching audiences in Peru, providing a platform for the UN's messages and activities.

Job Overview:
The internship at UNIC Lima is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in communications and media outreach within a prominent international organization. Interns will work under the supervision of the National Information Officer and will be involved in a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the visibility and understanding of the UN's work in Peru. The role requires a proactive approach to supporting the production of communication materials, managing social media accounts, and assisting in media outreach efforts. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of creative content and engage with various stakeholders, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of the UN and the field of international communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks that support the operations of UNIC Lima. These include providing general office support, responding to information requests, drafting communication documents, and assisting in the production of information products. Specific duties involve media outreach, such as drafting and distributing press releases, updating internal databases, and managing the UN's online presence in Peru. Interns will also assist in researching and compiling information for communication products, producing audio-visual materials, and monitoring media coverage relevant to UN priorities. Additional responsibilities may include updating directories and distribution lists, as well as other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet specific educational criteria to qualify for the internship. They should either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Candidates must provide proof of their educational status and may need to submit an official certificate later in the application process.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a bachelor's degree program or having completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program. The field of study should be relevant to the internship's focus on communications, media, or a related area. This ensures that interns possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the UNIC's objectives.

Experience:
While prior professional experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills that align with the responsibilities of the position. This may include coursework or projects related to communications, media production, or public relations. The internship is particularly suited for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in an international organization.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Information Centre. Proficiency in English is also required, as it facilitates communication within the UN system. Candidates should be able to read, write, and speak both languages effectively to fulfill the internship's communication tasks.

Additional Notes:
The internship is offered for an initial period of two months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, depending on departmental needs. It is important to note that this internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns must be available for full-time working hours (35 hours per week), although part-time arrangements may be considered based on UNIC Lima's requirements. Applicants should also have a good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, as well as design software like Adobe Creative Cloud. Skills in drafting news articles and social media posts, as well as designing surveys and polls, are desirable. Additionally, successful candidates who are not citizens or permanent residents of Peru may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship.
