Job Overview: The Social MediaIntern will work under the direct supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant at UNRIC. The intern's primary responsibilities will involve planning, creating, and curating content for social media platforms, monitoring various sources for relevant content, and editing multimedia materials for UNRIC’s social media channels. The intern will also attend press conferences and events in Brussels to gather quotes, photos, and videos for social media posts. The role requires active participation in live coverage of events and drafting monthly performance reports for UNRIC’s social media accounts. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for the following duties:
Utilize UNRIC Trello Boards to plan, create, and curate content in advance.
Collect and collate multimedia information from various departments and organizations.
Monitor different sources for new content and information related to the UN.
Edit and subtitle news videos for UNRIC’s social media channels using software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Canva.
Create visuals, quote cards, and other materials as requested using online tools.
Attend press conferences, meetings, and events in Brussels to gather quotes and take photos/videos for social media.
Draft posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Research trends and posts from partners and suggest retweets/reposts.
Monitor social media accounts for comments and questions from followers and flag them to the team. 1
Actively participate in live coverage of events in Brussels. 1
Draft monthly reports reflecting the performance of UNRIC’s social media accounts. 1
Carry out other tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or having completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. A field of study that is closely related to digital communications, social media, or a similar area is preferred.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required, applicants should have a good understanding of graphic and video editing software, including but not limited to Canva, Adobe Suite Products, CapCut, and similar software. Experience in drafting news articles or social media posts is desirable, as is the ability to provide photo and video coverage.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position. Additionally, fluency in one or more of the following languages is desirable: Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.
Additional Notes: The internship is expected to last for 4-6 months and is not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Belgium may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
