Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM aims to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programs and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The program is designed to provide hands-on experience in various aspects of migration management, data analysis, and reporting. Interns will work under the supervision of the Regional DTM Officer and will be integrated into the Regional Data Hub (RDH) team in Dakar, Senegal. The RDH is focused on providing data and analysis expertise to support IOM's strategic objectives and enhance the regional evidence base on migration. Interns will contribute to the production and analysis of DTM reports, factsheets, and dashboards, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information to partners. They will also assist in data management, quality control, and the development of new assessment tools and reporting initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Contributing to the production, analysis, writing, editing, and publication of DTM reports, factsheets, and dashboards.
Assisting in the review and interpretation of data in DTM information products, ensuring adherence to quality assurance processes.
Supporting data management initiatives, including drafting new assessment forms and data collection tools.
Developing product designs and templates for visualizing DTM data for diverse audiences.
Providing updates on human mobility trends and significant observations related to migration and displacement.
Conducting literature reviews to validate and contextualize DTM findings.
Coordinating with global and regional DTM support teams to ensure continuity of workflows.
Performing administrative and logistical support tasks as needed.
Engaging in any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Must be between 20 and 36 years of age.
Must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level) or have graduated within the last 12 months.
A specific interest in migration-related studies or relevant fields is essential.
Candidates should hold a scholarship for internship placements or be sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions.
Strong analytical and writing skills are required, along with the ability to work under tight deadlines and in a team environment.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field such as Economics, Data Science, Political Science, Social Science, Development Studies, Public Health, or Epidemiology is preferred. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in these fields with demonstrable relevant working experience may be accepted.
Experience: Interns should have less than two years of relevant working experience. Experience in data analysis, report writing, and familiarity with migration issues will be advantageous. Candidates should also have experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Languages: Fluency in English and French at a working professional level is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic or Spanish is considered advantageous. Candidates will be evaluated on their language skills during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration from other sources will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses but does not offer medical insurance for non-occupational issues. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide proof of coverage before starting work. IOM adheres to a zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
