Job Overview: As an Electro-Mechanical and Automation Technician at CERN, you will play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance, upgrading, and development of the particle accelerator cryomagnet manufacturing infrastructure within the Large Magnet Facility (LMF). This position is integral to the High Field Magnet (HFM) programme, where you will work with a variety of machines and equipment, including coil winding machines, hydraulic presses, heat treatment furnaces, and welding systems. Your primary responsibilities will involve collaborating with engineers and maintenance technicians to enhance automation projects, manage maintenance work orders, and ensure that all documentation related to the manufacturing infrastructure is accurate and up to date. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and effective teamwork, as you will be adapting workshop machinery to meet HFM requirements and supporting field maintenance technicians in their tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities: Your duties will include supporting the engineer responsible for the LMF infrastructure in developing and upgrading automation projects using Siemens PLCs and HMI interfaces. You will assist with wiring and rewiring projects for new machines, implement small-scale mechanical upgrades, and manage maintenance work orders related to the manufacturing infrastructure. Additionally, you will be responsible for requesting quotations, placing orders for parts, and tracking these orders throughout the maintenance and upgrade processes. Keeping the LMF manufacturing infrastructure documentation current is essential, which includes updating electrical schematics and archiving calibration records. You will also maintain an archive of critical programmes and settings for the machinery, utilizing various archiving tools provided by CERN IT services.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electromechanics, Automation, or a related field. Your highest educational qualification should be a general secondary education diploma. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this role. Additionally, you should have effective teamwork skills, the ability to adapt to changing situations, and strong self-organization capabilities in your daily tasks.
