Job Posting Organization:
UNICEF, established in 1946, is a United Nations agency that works in over 190 countries and territories. Its mission is to protect the rights of every child and ensure their survival, development, and well-being. UNICEF is the world's largest provider of vaccines and focuses on child health, nutrition, education, and protection from violence and exploitation. The organization operates with a non-political and impartial stance, dedicated to defending children's rights and providing lifesaving support during humanitarian emergencies.

Job Overview:
The position involves supporting the development of a practical School Guide on the Use of Suggestion Boxes, aimed at creating a safe and confidential reporting mechanism for school-related violence, including sexual harassment and abuse. The guide will be utilized by school staff, students, parents, and community members across five regions in Guinea-Bissau. Volunteers will collaborate with the UNICEF Education team and the Directorate-General for Basic and Secondary Education, contributing to a significant educational initiative that seeks to foster safer school environments. Each volunteer will have a specific role, whether in content development, graphic design, or editing, ensuring that the guide is accessible and effective for its intended audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Volunteer 1 (Content Development): Responsible for drafting the structure and content of the guide, ensuring that the language is simple and accessible for a school audience.
  • Volunteer 2 (Graphic Designing): Tasked with creating the layout, visuals, and an infographic based on the official reporting and referral flowchart to enhance the guide's usability.
  • Volunteer 3 (Editing/Proofreading): Charged with reviewing and refining the language of the guide, ensuring consistency and validating technical and pedagogical clarity.
  • Collaborate with the UNICEF Education team and the Directorate-General for Basic and Secondary Education to ensure alignment with national materials and guidelines.
  • Participate in discussions with education officers and other stakeholders to enhance the guide's effectiveness and relevance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in writing and editing.
  • Experience in educational content development or graphic design, depending on the volunteer role.
  • Familiarity with issues related to school safety, gender-based violence, and child protection is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for content creation and design.

Educational Background:
A background in education, social sciences, graphic design, or a related field is preferred. Volunteers should have relevant academic qualifications or equivalent experience that demonstrates their capability to contribute effectively to the project.

Experience:
Previous experience in educational initiatives, content development, or graphic design is beneficial. Volunteers should be able to demonstrate their skills through past projects or relevant work experience, particularly in contexts related to child protection or educational materials.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the primary language of instruction in Guinea-Bissau. Proficiency in English or other local languages would be advantageous but not required.

Additional Notes:
The position is voluntary and does not offer financial compensation. The duration of the commitment is flexible, depending on the project timeline and the availability of the volunteers. This role is suitable for individuals looking to gain experience in educational content development and contribute to meaningful initiatives that impact children's lives.
