  • UN-Habitat's work includes supporting the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) and other initiatives to improve access to housing and urban services.

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Regional Office for Africa under the Kenya Country Programme, specifically to support the EU funded Partnership for the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda (PINUA) project. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer/Project Manager for PINUA. The role involves supporting general communications operations, coordinating with other UN-Habitat communications staff, and assisting in the technical production of communication and advocacy materials for the PINUA project. The intern will also design communication products for social media, cover public events, produce video reels on key topics, and contribute to writing stories, articles, blogs, and press releases in English. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various aspects of urban development and communication within the UN framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting general communications operations and coordinating with other UN-Habitat communications staff and departments.
  • Assisting in the technical production of communication and advocacy materials and tools for the PINUA project.
  • Designing communication products for social media channels to enhance the publicity of the PINUA project.
  • Covering public events related to project implementation.
  • Producing video reels on key topics in a simplified manner tailored for different community consumers and media platforms.
  • Supporting the design and use of AI for visual production.
  • Contributing to writing stories, articles, blogs, and press releases in English.
  • Maintaining orderly media records and files on ongoing projects and programs.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The preferred areas of study for applicants include Media, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Business Administration, or related fields. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study closely related to the internship type is necessary. Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship position, applicants should have a field of study that aligns closely with the internship's focus. This means that candidates should ideally have academic experience or relevant coursework that prepares them for the tasks they will undertake during the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in creating video reels, taking photos, visual production, and writing texts is also required.
