Job Overview:
The Disability Inclusion Officer position is a critical role within the WFP, aimed at enhancing the organization's commitment to disability inclusion across its operations. The officer will work under the supervision of the Senior Disability Inclusion Advisor and will be responsible for integrating disability inclusion into WFP's policies, programs, and practices. This role involves collaborating with various departments to ensure that persons with disabilities are included in all aspects of WFP's work, from recruitment to program implementation. The officer will also engage with organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to foster partnerships and ensure that their voices are heard in WFP's operations. The position requires a strong understanding of disability rights and inclusion principles, as well as the ability to develop and implement strategies that promote accessibility and inclusiveness within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Disability Inclusion Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing technical support to Human Resources on reasonable accommodation policies and practices, ensuring that disability inclusion is embedded throughout the recruitment cycle.
  • Leading engagement efforts with OPDs to develop partnerships that enhance WFP's disability inclusion initiatives.
  • Promoting accessibility within WFP's built environment and ensuring that all facilities and services are inclusive for persons with disabilities.
  • Offering technical assistance and capacity building to regional and country offices to implement disability inclusion strategies effectively.
  • Delivering training and guidance on disability inclusion topics to staff and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the development of policies and guidelines that support disability inclusion across WFP's operations.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of disability inclusion initiatives and providing recommendations for improvement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in social sciences, development studies, international relations, sociology, or a related field. Additionally, they should have at least four years of progressively responsible professional experience in development projects or humanitarian assistance, with a minimum of two years specifically focused on disability inclusion. Strong analytical and writing skills are essential, along with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively. Previous experience with the United Nations, particularly with WFP, is highly desirable, as is a demonstrated knowledge of the normative framework surrounding disability inclusion.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in relevant fields such as social sciences, development studies, international relations, or sociology is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively address the challenges of disability inclusion within humanitarian contexts.

Experience:
The position requires at least four years of professional experience in development or humanitarian assistance, with a focus on disability inclusion for at least two of those years. The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities is crucial, as is a proven track record of successful collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this role, as it is the primary working language of WFP. Knowledge of another UN language is strongly desirable, as it will enhance communication and collaboration with international partners and stakeholders.
