Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Management Team in Italy, particularly in the implementation of the THAMM Plus Project. This project aims to enhance labour migration governance and mobility in North Africa, building on previous phases funded by the EU Trust Fund for Africa. The incumbent will be responsible for providing general information on national laws and administrative procedures related to labour and social inclusion, translating and updating information materials for labour migrants, and monitoring the inclusion of migrant workers in the workplace. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to assist with administrative tasks related to financial and procurement aspects of project implementation. The Project Assistant will also support beneficiaries with transportation during national and international movements and may be required to undertake duty travel as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide general information on national laws and administrative procedures related to labour and social inclusion, as well as access to services for migrants.
Translate and/or update customized information materials for labour migrants coming to Italy.
Support the monitoring of migrant workers’ inclusion in the workplace, including compiling and submitting monitoring questionnaires.
Maintain regular communication with project beneficiaries.
Assist with administrative tasks related to financial and procurement aspects of project implementation, in accordance with IOM regulations.
Support relocation beneficiaries with air and ground transportation during national and international movements.
Undertake duty travel as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma with three years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited academic institution with one year of professional experience.
In-depth knowledge of socio-economic inclusion aspects of migration.
Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing, and presentation skills in a multicultural setting.
Knowledge of the Italian Immigration Act and other national regulations for migrant workers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and office software packages.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a high school diploma with three years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with at least one year of professional experience. Accredited institutions are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a recognized and quality education that prepares them for the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the field of migration, particularly focusing on migrants’ inclusion, access to services, and labour market integration. A minimum of three years of experience in providing direct assistance and counselling to migrant communities in Italy is required. Previous experience with international organizations, NGOs, or EU Agencies is considered an asset, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational context and challenges faced by migrants.
Languages: Fluency in Italian, French, and Arabic is required, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates can effectively communicate in the necessary languages.
Additional Notes: The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Italy will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the relevant government authorities. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
