Job Overview: The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Communications Analyst at UNFPA Türkiye Country Office, primarily supporting visibility and communications activities. This role involves creating visual and written content for the UNFPA Türkiye website and social media accounts. The intern will engage in a structured work plan that outlines achievements and learning opportunities throughout the internship. Regular progress meetings will be held to foster a supportive environment that enhances the intern's skills and capacity in alignment with UNFPA’s mission. The position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to meaningful communications efforts within the context of development and humanitarian programs, particularly those funded by the EU.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the visibility and communication efforts of UNFPA Türkiye. Key responsibilities include: assisting in visibility and communication activities for development and humanitarian programs, including the EU-funded WFC project; developing audiovisual and written content in both Turkish and English; producing and editing videos with subtitles; generating and designing social media content such as infographics and quote cards; creating captions for social media and website content; posting prepared social media content on UNFPA Türkiye's accounts; translating and editing web articles, stories, and press releases; maintaining and updating the digital asset management system and media lists; supporting the Communications Team during physical events, including the WFC launch event; preparing donor-requested reports; and performing any other relevant tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following qualifications: be enrolled in a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and have completed one full academic year; be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher); have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above and must start the internship within one year of graduation; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate an expressed interest in communications, have experience in graphic design, video editing, and social media communications, and possess written and spoken proficiency in English. Familiarity with design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere) is also required, along with the ability to adapt to new environments and establish good working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in a first university degree program (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and having completed at least one full academic year. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (master’s or higher) or have recently graduated with a relevant university degree. Those enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program may also apply if the internship is part of their program requirements.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes demonstrable experience in graphic design, video editing, and social media communications. Candidates should have a strong interest in the field of communications and be able to showcase their skills through previous work or projects. Experience working in multicultural settings and the ability to adapt to new environments are also essential.
Languages: Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Turkish is also required, as the intern will be creating content in both languages. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. Costs associated with the internship must be covered by the nominating institution or the interns themselves, including living expenses, accommodation, and travel arrangements. However, interns may receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses if they are not financially supported by any institution or program. The stipend amount varies based on the duty station. Interns are required to have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, and proof of insurance must be submitted before the internship begins. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns.
