Job Overview: The Civil Peace Service (CPS) program is dedicated to non-violent conflict transformation and peacebuilding in regions affected by crisis and conflict. In Kenya, GIZ's CPS plays a crucial role in addressing violent conflicts stemming from social inequalities. The program collaborates with civil society partners and a governmental partner organization to enhance conflict transformation through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, dialogue structures, and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services. Additionally, since 2014, CPS has initiated the special program 'Preventing Displacements – Reintegrating IDPs,' which focuses on reconciliation efforts between Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), refugees, and host communities. The CPS Advisor will work closely with partner organizations to design, implement, monitor, and report on strategic interventions, providing technical support to strengthen partner organizations and enrich overall project programming.
Duties and Responsibilities: The CPS Advisor will be responsible for several key tasks: assisting in building or strengthening the capacity of local experts and partner staff in peace education and conflict transformation through on-the-job training; participating in project activities, exchange meetings, and workshops organized by partner organizations; collaborating with partner organizations to develop, update, or refine materials related to conflict transformation; supporting networking and collaboration to enhance relationships and share information; guiding partner organizations in developing technical proposals and budgets for project implementation; contributing to the development of reports from partner organizations and local peace experts; cooperating with the PME Advisor and partner organizations in monitoring and evaluating joint activities and projects; providing administrative support during project implementation; and participating in conflict analysis and context assessments as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree in Social Sciences, Peace Education, Conflict and Peace Studies, or a relevant field. They should have experience in adult education, Do-no-Harm principles, and Early Response mechanisms. A minimum of 5 years of work experience is required, with extensive experience working at the community level and with grassroots or civil society organizations. Candidates should demonstrate a high level of tolerance, flexibility, adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and possess strong communication, organization, and facilitation skills. Integrity and professional discretion are essential attributes for this role.
Educational Background: The position requires a degree in Social Sciences, Peace Education, Conflict and Peace Studies, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of peace education and conflict transformation, which are central to the role of the CPS Advisor.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant work experience, particularly in areas related to peace education, conflict transformation, and community engagement. Experience working with civil society organizations and grassroots initiatives is highly valued, as it demonstrates the ability to operate effectively in diverse and challenging environments.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. Knowledge of Kiswahili is considered an added advantage, as it enhances communication with local communities and stakeholders.
