Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director serves as the legal representative of Humanity & Inclusion in Kenya, responsible for promoting the organization's reputation and implementing its mandate and strategy in collaboration with operational partners, institutions, and donors. This role involves ensuring budget compliance and adherence to HI's policies, including safeguarding, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, human resources, and risk management. The Country Director will actively monitor local developments to identify risks and opportunities, represent the organization, and communicate according to a plan set with the Regional Director. In crisis situations, the Country Director assumes responsibilities as outlined in specific response frameworks. Given the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the Country Director will also provide remote support to the national partner while ensuring effective operational implementation of HI's programs in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Management: Develop staff by creating conditions for commitment and professionalism, ensuring compliance with the code of conduct and institutional policies. Translate HI's strategy into operational objectives for the team and lead necessary changes. Encourage inter-departmental exchanges and innovation while organizing operational and partnership management.
  • Strategy and Steering: Define, implement, and adapt HI's strategy in the program, responsible for fundraising and resource planning. Maintain regular contact with donors and ensure optimal resource allocation. Conduct partnership steering committees and design project proposals for continuity or expansion.
  • Operational Implementation: Manage security in collaboration with the Humanitarian Access and Security Manager, ensuring safety culture and compliance with security documents. Oversee financial control and monitor operations, ensuring technical quality standards are applied. Continuously analyze current developments and implement risk monitoring.
  • Influence and Leadership: Coordinate closely with the Chad Country Director, secure authorizations to operate, and represent HI to local, national, and international authorities. Negotiate operational partnerships and develop external influence through forums and strategic alliances.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the humanitarian or development sector, with at least 2 years in a Country Director role. Proven success in managing emergency response and development programs in conflict areas is essential, along with expertise in project inception and rapid scale-up of activities. Extensive experience in security management in conflict zones is required, ensuring the safety of teams and beneficiaries. Experience in mine action program management, including demining activities, is considered a strong asset.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in humanitarian studies, international relations, development studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong understanding of humanitarian principles and practices, as well as knowledge of the specific challenges faced in conflict-affected areas.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in conflict zones. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage complex programs and lead diverse teams effectively. Experience in fundraising and resource mobilization is also crucial, as is familiarity with the operational context in Sudan and surrounding regions.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Sudan may also be beneficial for effective communication with local partners and communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a 6-month international contract starting from mid-June 202
  • The contract includes social coverage adapted to the individual's situation, such as unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals, a pension scheme, and medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution. The gross monthly salary starts at 2986€, with a net monthly per diem of 619.50€. Employees are entitled to 25 paid leave days per year and 11 rest and recuperation days. The position is unaccompanied, with travel costs covered for the employee, and a child allowance of 100€ per month for each child after the first. Housing is provided by HI.
