Job Overview:
As the logistics-manager" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Manager, you will report directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">country director and collaborate with headquarters services to ensure the efficient management of logistics resources for the region under your responsibility. This role is pivotal in addressing the logistical challenges faced in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, particularly following the outbreak of conflict in April 202
  • Your primary responsibilities will include establishing strong logistics processes aligned with HI's policies and sectorial best practices, ensuring that these processes facilitate rapid scaling while maintaining compliance. You will also provide technical assistance and guidance to local partners in Sudan while being based in Nairobi, with the potential for regular travel to Sudan, contingent upon visa approvals. The Logistics Manager will play a crucial role in the rollout and implementation of HI's logistics standards, focusing on professional development within the logistics sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Management: Define the Logistics section of the Strategic Operations Plan (StratOp) and direct its action plan.
  • Operational Implementation: Oversee the diagnostic phase, which involves contextual analysis, and the design phase, which includes resource planning.
  • Procurement Planning: Lead the launch phase of logistics operations, ensuring that procurement processes are efficient and compliant with HI standards.
  • Development of Logistics Profession: Facilitate the development of the logistics profession within the organization and contribute to its expertise and accountability.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response: Ensure that logistics operations are prepared for emergencies and can respond effectively to crises.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support to local partners for complex procurement and adapt logistics approaches to changing security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security contexts.
  • Proactive Support: Ensure proactive and efficient direct implementation of projects scheduled for 2025 and provide constant reactive support to field teams.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Logistics Manager position, candidates must hold a degree in logistics or supply chain management, with additional training in logistics management and the development of humanitarian projects or operations, or possess equivalent experience. Candidates should have a proven track record of at least 5 years in sectors such as procurement, supplies, management or rehabilitation of premises, fleet management, and/or information and communication systems. Additionally, a minimum of 4 years of experience in a coordination position is required. Strong analytical and synthesis skills are essential, along with experience in local capacity building. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in emergency contexts, manage stress, and perform under pressure. Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills, along with good communication and negotiation skills in English, are also necessary for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a degree in logistics or supply chain management, or a related field, with relevant training in logistics management and humanitarian project operations. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of logistics in humanitarian settings and for effectively managing logistics resources.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 5 years of experience in relevant sectors, including procurement, supplies, management or rehabilitation of premises, fleet management, and/or information and communication systems. Additionally, candidates should have at least 4 years of experience in a coordination role, demonstrating their ability to manage logistics operations effectively in complex environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as strong communication and negotiation skills are essential for interacting with various stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the regions in which HI operates.

Additional Notes:
The Logistics Manager position is offered as a 3-month international contract, ideally starting from mid-June 2025, based in Nairobi with regular travel to Sudan. The contract includes social coverage tailored to the individual's situation, such as unemployment insurance benefits for EU nationals, a pension scheme, and medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution. Repatriation insurance is covered by HI. The salary for this position starts at 2850 € gross per month, depending on experience, with a per diem of 682 € net per month paid in the field. Employees are entitled to 25 days of paid leave per year, and rest and recuperation (R&R) is provided at a rate of 1 day per month. The position is unaccompanied, and housing will be collectively provided by HI. If the candidate is a resident in the country, a local package will be offered.
