Job Overview:
The position of Writer and Editor for the IMEO Methane Data Platform is crucial for ensuring that all content produced is accurate, scientifically rigorous, and optimized for web consumption. The writer will be responsible for crafting compelling narratives and key messages that position IMEO as a data-driven initiative. This role involves delivering a variety of content types, including launch stories, case studies, and technical pieces that emphasize the unique contributions of each tool within the IMEO ecosystem. The content will span various formats such as web copy, data interactives, and communications materials intended for high-level events. The writer will collaborate with different teams to ensure that the content is audience-focused and meets the strategic goals of the IMEO initiative. The position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements, and is expected to last for a duration of five months.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Writer and Editor include:
  • Coordinating with stakeholders to create secure Tier 2 web content, which involves mapping, drafting, revising, and securing sign-off for up to 10 pages.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to develop Tier 3 public platform web content, also requiring mapping, drafting, revising, and securing sign-off for up to 10 pages.
  • Crafting data narratives that support the platform's data products, ensuring that the information is accessible and engaging for the target audience.
  • Editing and proofreading a wide range of content for the data platform, including blogs, factsheets, press releases, video scripts, and technical web copy, while working closely with the IMEO Communications team.
  • Creating and managing an editorial calendar to proactively identify and surface story opportunities that align with the platform's objectives.
  • Developing key messages and talking points regarding the data platform for IMEO management to ensure consistent communication across all channels.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include:
  • A graduate degree in communications, media, or a related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in effective communication strategies.
  • A minimum of six years of experience in communications, content strategy, and/or journalism, with a preference for experience related to climate, the energy sector, or data-oriented communications.
  • Impeccable writing and editing skills, with the ability to distill complex topics into clear and concise messaging that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach, showcasing exceptional analytical and research skills that contribute to high-quality content production.
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines and a commitment to continuous improvement in content quality and effectiveness.

Educational Background:

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience in communications, content strategy, or journalism.
