Job Overview:

The intern will work under the supervision of the Communications (Media and Advocacy) Officer, contributing to the media and advocacy team's efforts to enhance UNICEF's external communication and visibility. The role involves drafting and editing press releases, media articles, and op-eds to effectively position UNICEF in the media landscape. Additionally, the intern will assist in planning and executing advocacy and visibility events, preparing essential materials such as talking points, briefs, and post-event reports. The internship aims to strengthen UNICEF Jordan's communication strategies and public advocacy efforts, enhance organizational capacity to engage with media and the public, and provide meaningful learning opportunities for young professionals in development communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: writing stories and articles that highlight the impact of UNICEF's programs on children and families; supporting the research and development of communications products that showcase program effectiveness; assisting in the planning and organization of events in collaboration with the Communication team and external partners; implementing the media engagement plan by tracking progress and coordinating outreach; ensuring all communication outputs adhere to UNICEF's guidelines and branding standards; and enhancing internal communication support within the organization. The intern will also coordinate closely with the advocacy lead and senior management to ensure alignment with the office's public advocacy strategy.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in communications, international relations, marketing, digital media, journalism, or a related field. Strong writing, editing, and research skills are essential, along with a good understanding of communications principles and project management methodologies. Experience in developing countries or familiarity with emergency contexts is considered an asset. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, showcasing a passion for advocating for children's rights.

Educational Background:
A degree in communications, international relations, marketing, digital media, journalism, or a related field is required. Candidates should either be currently enrolled in a relevant program or have graduated within the past two years. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of communication and advocacy in a global context.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in communications or related fields. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with project management, media relations, and advocacy work will be beneficial. Any previous internships or volunteer work in similar roles will be advantageous and will help candidates stand out during the selection process.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, or a local language, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application.

This internship is a full-time, on-site position at the UNICEF Jordan Country Office located in Shmeisani, and is open exclusively to Jordanian nationals.
