Job Overview:
This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive experience within the Guided Tours Unit (GTU) of the Visitors Services Section, which is part of the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. The primary goal of this unit is to engage and educate the public about the United Nations' work and its impact on global issues. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with staff members, gaining insights into the operations of the UN and contributing to outreach activities that promote understanding of the organization's mission. The internship is full-time, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, and is expected to last for six months, starting on July 7, 202
  • Interns will be involved in various tasks that may include assisting with the planning and organization of outreach activities, supporting guided tours and briefings, conducting research on UN thematic issues, and providing general office support. This role is crucial in helping the UN connect with the public and enhance its visibility and educational outreach.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting with the planning and organization of outreach activities aimed at educating the public about the UN's work; providing support for the organization of guided tours, briefings, and events; conducting research on UN thematic issues; offering general office support such as drafting correspondence, maintaining files and databases, and organizing meetings; assisting with photography and videography to promote Visitors Services; drafting media content for the Visitors Services social media accounts; responding to visitors' inquiries both in-person and in writing; and assisting with the development, implementation, and analysis of surveys regarding visitors' experiences. Interns may also be required to perform other duties as assigned by their supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent), or (b) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study related to the internship is necessary. Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word and MS PowerPoint, to effectively perform their duties.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree or be in the final year of their undergraduate studies. Alternatively, candidates may have completed a graduate program. The field of study should be relevant to the internship, such as international relations, communications, public administration, or a related discipline that aligns with the functions of the Guided Tours Unit.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills that align with the responsibilities of the position. Experience in volunteer work, internships, or academic projects related to public outreach, education, or communications will be considered advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French, another official language of the UN, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
