Job Overview:
The internship at UNCTAD is designed to provide interns with practical experience in the field of trade and development. Interns are expected to work full-time, either in-person in Geneva or remotely, for a duration of three months starting in May. The role involves supporting the Intergovernmental Outreach and Support Service (IOSS) in enhancing cooperation and outreach to civil society organizations, parliamentarians, and member states. Interns will engage in various activities, including assisting in the organization of meetings, processing accreditation requests, preparing communication drafts, and supporting outreach efforts. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of the UN and contribute to meaningful projects that impact global trade and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including: assisting in the preparation and organization of meetings related to civil society organizations (CSOs) and the Global Leadership Summit (GLS); processing accreditation requests for UNCTAD XVI; preparing drafts for communication with CSOs and parliamentarians; creating outreach materials such as flyers and electronic mailings; updating the CSO database; attending meetings and preparing notes and reports; assisting in the preparation of background materials for meetings of the G77 and China Regional Group; drafting reports and taking minutes of meetings; and coordinating administrative requirements for meetings. Interns are also expected to adhere to UN regulations and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Required Qualifications:
No prior working experience is required to apply for this internship. However, candidates should possess training, education, or skills that are relevant to the internship. A field of study closely related to the internship is necessary, and candidates should demonstrate how their background can benefit UNCTAD during their internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program or have recently graduated in a field related to trade, economics, international relations, or a similar discipline. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of the internship, ensuring that interns can effectively contribute to the work of UNCTAD.

Experience:
While no specific work experience is required, candidates should have relevant academic training or coursework that prepares them for the internship. This could include coursework in international trade, development studies, or related fields that provide a foundation for understanding the work of UNCTAD.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and all costs related to travel, accommodation, medical insurance, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern. Interns must have a valid visa for in-person internships and are required to have access to a computer with the latest version of Office 365 applications for remote work. Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profiles (PHP), and individual interviews may be conducted.
