Job Overview:
The consultant will play a pivotal role in supporting the UNEP Textile Initiative, particularly the InTex Indonesia project, which is a three-year initiative funded by Denmark and implemented in collaboration with the Government of Indonesia. The primary objectives of this project are to accelerate the adoption of circular practices within the textiles industry in Indonesia and to assist the Government in executing the Circular Economy National Roadmap and Action Plans. The consultant will serve as a national focal point for the InTex Indonesia project, engaging with various stakeholders, including government ministries, industry associations, and other organizations involved in the textiles sector. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring and evaluating project activities, ensuring effective communication and coordination among all parties involved, and contributing to the overall success of the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: contributing to the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the InTex Indonesia project; acting as an interface between national implementing partners, the Government of Indonesia, and UNEP; providing administrative and substantive support for stakeholder engagement; coordinating the organization of the InTex Indonesia Inter-Ministerial Advisory Group; ensuring close monitoring of project progress and deliverables; reviewing technical outputs from implementing partners; organizing outreach activities such as training workshops and seminars; contributing to project reporting for both internal and external stakeholders; staying updated on developments in the Indonesian textiles sector; compiling UNEP inputs for joint UN programmes; and collaborating with other relevant UN initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental management, public administration, business administration, or a related technical field. A minimum of five years of experience in sustainability or environmental management is required, along with experience in circular economy and green economy development in Indonesia. Experience in the textiles sector is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate extensive experience in effective coordination with diverse stakeholders, including national and sub-national governments and industry representatives. Strong organizational skills for managing events and workshops with varied participants are essential, as well as experience in project development, management, and reporting. Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory, and knowledge of UNEP’s work on circular economy and lifecycle approaches is desirable. Experience within the UN system is also a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in one of the following areas: environmental sciences, environmental management, public administration, business administration, or a related technical field. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the objectives of the InTex Indonesia project.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in sustainability or environmental management. Candidates should have a proven track record in circular economy and green economy development specifically within Indonesia. Experience in the textiles sector is highly desirable, as it will provide valuable insights into the unique challenges and opportunities within this industry. Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated experience in coordinating efforts among diverse stakeholders, which is crucial for the successful implementation of the project.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Indonesian is required for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders, as well as for the preparation of reports and documentation related to the project. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for one year, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and funding availability. The consultant will work primarily from Jakarta, Indonesia, but may also have the flexibility to work from home as needed. This role is part of a larger initiative that aims to foster sustainable practices within the textiles industry, and as such, it is crucial for the consultant to be committed to the principles of sustainability and circular economy.
