Job Overview: The Economist position at the World Bank Group in Harare, Zimbabwe, is a critical role within the Economic Policy (EP) Global Practice. This practice leads the dialogue and engagement with clients on macroeconomic issues, fiscal policy, trade, competition, and investment. The role involves contributing to the Zimbabwe EP work program, which includes macroeconomic analysis, policy dialogue, and technical advice. The Economist will be responsible for monitoring and assessing macroeconomic developments in Zimbabwe, preparing analytical reports, and engaging with various stakeholders, including government officials and development partners. The position requires a strong understanding of the Zimbabwean economy and the ability to translate complex economic data into actionable policy recommendations. The Economist will also support the implementation of the World Bank's programs in Zimbabwe, ensuring that the initiatives align with the country's development goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Economist will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Monitoring and assessing macroeconomic developments in Zimbabwe, providing insights into the country's economic, financial, and sectoral issues.
Leading or contributing to the preparation and supervision of the EP work program in Zimbabwe.
Utilizing economic and financial models to analyze data and inform policy advice.
Maintaining a comprehensive macroeconomic and financial database, regularly updating medium-term macroeconomic projections.
Preparing analytical economic reports, including the Zimbabwe Economic Update and Country Economic Memorandum.
Engaging in policy dialogue with the Zimbabwean government and collaborating with development partners, private sector stakeholders, and local think tanks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a master's degree in Economics, with a PhD preferred. They should have at least five years of relevant work experience, demonstrating strong technical and operational skills in economic policy analysis. Familiarity with the Zimbabwean economy and key economic policies, particularly fiscal and monetary issues, is essential. Candidates should also have proven leadership qualities, effective teamwork skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to various audiences, including senior public officials.
