Job Overview: The engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the TaDWIR project, which aims to enhance the environmental and financial sustainability of Lebanon's waste management system. This position involves providing technical support for the implementation of various projects related to solid waste management. The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the technical and operational design, procurement, supervision, and monitoring of project activities. This includes advising on project activities, conducting technical evaluations, guiding the drafting of terms of reference, and ensuring quality control throughout the project lifecycle. The role also requires effective reporting and outreach, including the preparation of commissioning and progress reports, liaising with local decision-makers, and presenting project results at public events. The Project Engineer will work closely with contractors and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the project and will be expected to conduct site inspections and administer contracts to maintain project standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical advisory support: Advise on the design and supervision of project activities, complete technical evaluations for procurement, draft terms of reference, review consultant documents, and coordinate contractor work.
Ensure effective reporting and outreach: Develop commissioning and progress reports, liaise with beneficiaries and local authorities, present project results, and support technical training for contractors.
Quality assurance: Conduct site inspections, supervise fieldwork, monitor project progress, administer contracts, and review contractor submissions.
Facilitate knowledge sharing: Organize training and workshops, document best practices, and share lessons learned with stakeholders. The incumbent will also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Solid Waste Management, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in these areas, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, will be considered. Proficiency in AutoCAD software is required, and knowledge of energy and environmental topics, as well as experience with UN or international development agencies, is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in solid waste management. The educational background should align with the technical requirements of the position, emphasizing engineering and environmental sciences.
Experience: Applicants with a master’s degree in a relevant field are not required to have prior professional work experience. However, those with a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of two years of progressive relevant experience in solid waste management. Experience in the environmental and solid waste sector in Lebanon is considered an asset, as is previous work with UN or international development agencies.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered a plus, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse linguistic landscape of Lebanon and the region.
Additional Notes: The Project Engineer position is based in Beirut, with frequent travel to project sites across Lebanon. The role is full-time and may involve working with various stakeholders, including government entities, NGOs, and the private sector.
