Job Overview: The National Trainers on Men Engagement and Volunteerism Programme will play a crucial role in advancing UNFPA's mission in Turkmenistan by engaging young men and boys in promoting gender equality and preventing gender-based violence (GBV). The selected consultants will be responsible for leading a volunteerism program that focuses on continuous education and training of young men in sports schools about gender equality and GBV prevention. This position requires strong facilitation skills, the ability to recruit and train volunteers, and the capacity to organize community outreach activities. The trainers will also be expected to collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community groups, to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the program. The overall goal is to create a supportive environment for young men to challenge harmful gender norms and contribute positively to their communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Trainers will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Participating in a 5-day Pre-Service Training of Trainers (TOT) to enhance facilitation skills and gain knowledge on gender-related topics.
Recruiting 12-15 young volunteers (men and women) to promote gender equality in their communities.
Training volunteers on gender equality, GBV prevention, and facilitation skills.
Organizing sessions for volunteers to conduct outreach activities in sports schools and communities.
Leading a regular volunteerism program, providing advisory support, and organizing capacity development sessions monthly.
Communicating with sports schools, regional departments, and other community agencies to enhance program visibility.
Collaborating on data collection for situational analysis on social norms and gender stereotypes.
Providing monthly and quarterly reports on training progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement. 1
Delivering a final report summarizing achievements and challenges, including quantitative data on trained young men.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in teaching, social sciences, or related fields, or a high school diploma with an additional 2 years of relevant experience. A minimum of 2 years of experience as a trainer working with young people is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of cultural and social norms in Turkmenistan, as well as customs related to gender. Excellent communication skills in Turkmen and Russian are mandatory, while proficiency in English is considered an asset. The ability to engage effectively with diverse groups and facilitate discussions on sensitive topics is essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields such as education, social sciences, gender studies, or a related discipline. Alternatively, candidates with a high school diploma may be considered if they have significant relevant experience in training or community engagement. Continuous professional development in gender issues, youth engagement, and facilitation techniques will be beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in training, particularly with young people. Experience in community engagement, volunteer management, and gender equality initiatives will be highly advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully leading training programs and facilitating discussions on gender-related topics.
Languages: Fluency in Turkmen and Russian is mandatory for this position, as these are the primary languages used in the community and among stakeholders. Proficiency in English is considered a valuable asset, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and access to additional resources.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is set to last from June 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, covering a total of 82 working days. The consultants will be expected to deliver their services in various locations, including Ashgabat and several velayats. The consultancy fee will be calculated based on the GS-2 level of the UN salary scale for the General Service Category, effective from November 1, 202
