Job Overview: The position involves the establishment of key facilities aimed at enhancing sustainable practices in Harare, Zimbabwe. The project focuses on improving waste management, promoting clean energy, and encouraging resource efficiency in the built environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the establishment of Integrated Resource Recovery Facilities (IRRC) and Multi-functional Clean Energy Centres (MCEC) in designated areas of Harare, including Mabvuku-Tafara and Epworth. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and non-profit organizations, to ensure the successful implementation of the project objectives. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to capacity building efforts and promote sustainable practices among local populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for this position include:
Overseeing the establishment of Integrated Resource Recovery Facilities (IRRC) and Multi-functional Clean Energy Centres (MCEC) in specified locations within Harare.
Collaborating with local stakeholders to identify community needs and ensure that the facilities meet those needs effectively.
Developing and implementing project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
Conducting assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the facilities and making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
Promoting sustainable practices in waste management and energy use among local communities.
Providing training and capacity building for local personnel and community members on sustainable practices and facility operations.
Preparing reports and documentation for project stakeholders and funders, detailing progress and outcomes.
Ensuring compliance with local regulations and international standards in project implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
Proven technical experience in energy management, waste management, or low-carbon building materials.
Strong understanding of not-for-profit principles and practices.
Excellent project management skills, including the ability to develop and implement project plans effectively.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, including a degree in environmental science, sustainable development, engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or sustainable urban development are highly desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in the fields of energy, waste management, or sustainable development. Experience working with international NGOs or in similar projects in developing countries is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zimbabwe is an advantage and may enhance communication with local communities.
Additional Notes: This position is part of a project funded by the Swedish Government and is focused on the Harare Metropolitan area. The role is expected to be full-time and may involve travel within the project locations.
