The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience in line with their academic studies or interests. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with the IAEA's mission and contribute to its programs while gaining valuable insights into the workings of an international organization. This specific internship within the Safeguards Division of Information Management focuses on applying modern remote sensing and imagery science techniques to satellite imagery and geospatial information. Interns will work closely with experienced imagery analysts to develop tools that enhance the analytical capabilities of the organization, particularly in the context of nuclear-related industrial facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As an intern in the SGIM State Infrastructure Analysis Section, you will be responsible for several key tasks that contribute to the enhancement of analytical capabilities for satellite imagery and geospatial data. Your duties will include:
  • Building digital 3D model prototypes and Proofs of Concept (PoC) for nuclear-related industrial facilities to assess their fit and usability.
  • Interacting with business users to define the scope and analytics business case for projects.
  • Developing and applying methodologies for 3D modeling of nuclear-related industrial facilities to improve geospatial analytics product functionality and enhance safeguards capabilities.
  • Identifying and evaluating suitable applications and software that can be utilized in the modeling process. This role will provide you with a high level of professional development and exposure to real-world challenges in the field of imagery science.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this internship, candidates must possess a university degree in mathematics, statistics, remote sensing, architecture, or data science-related fields. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate skills in producing Building Information Models (BIM) and have experience with applications such as AutoCAD, Trimble SketchUp, or other 3D modeling software. Familiarity with development tools like Python and knowledge of geospatial information systems (GIS) will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. Candidates may apply up to one year after completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important to note that candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.

Experience:
The internship is aimed at individuals who are currently studying or have recently graduated, thus requiring candidates to have relevant academic experience in their chosen field. While specific professional experience is not mandatory, demonstrated skills in relevant software and methodologies will be highly regarded.

Languages:
Good written and spoken English is essential for this position. Fluency in any other IAEA official language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian, will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile and ability to communicate within the organization.

Additional Notes:
This internship is for a duration of 12 months, and candidates are required to confirm their availability for the entire period. Interns will be expected to provide two signed letters of recommendation as part of their application.
