Job Overview: The Emergency Officer position is crucial for the WFP Country Office in Chad, particularly in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the influx of refugees from Sudan. The role involves strengthening the Programme unit's capacity to effectively respond to emergencies, ensuring that WFP's interventions are timely, efficient, and integrated. The Emergency Officer will work closely with the Emergency Coordinator and other divisions to implement emergency response activities, provide technical support, and enhance operational decision-making through analysis and reporting. This position is vital for ensuring that WFP's emergency response is aligned with its global program delivery standards and effectively meets the needs of affected populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Emergency Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Implementing response activities and plans in accordance with WFP Emergency Protocols.
Planning, implementing, and supervising General Food Distributions (GFDs) while providing technical support to improve food assistance delivery.
Conducting analyses and preparing reports to inform operational decision-making.
Participating in the design and dissemination of situational updates and mapping data on emergency situations.
Coordinating with UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to ensure effective partnerships.
Liaising with various units to ensure quality delivery of food assistance programming.
Developing training materials and documenting lessons learned for future preparedness.
Supporting Cash-Based Transfer (CBT) distributions and managing related processes.
Preparing operational and analytical reports to track project progress. 1
Contributing to an inclusive workplace that reflects WFP's diversity framework. 1
Supporting emergency school feeding activities in refugee camps. 1
Performing additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related area. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional relevant work experience and training may be acceptable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of humanitarian architecture and possess the ability to write reports and provide analyses. Experience in emergency conditions is also essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or Social Sciences. A first university degree may be considered if accompanied by additional years of related work experience and/or relevant training courses.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least one year of relevant experience in humanitarian work, particularly at the field level. This experience should include direct involvement in emergency response operations and a solid understanding of the challenges faced in such environments.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position, with a proficiency level of C in both languages. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication and coordination in the diverse operational context of WFP.
