Job Overview:
The position of Individual Contractor for Project Portfolio Management is crucial for supporting the overall objectives and priorities of the Mitigation Branch within the Climate Change Division of UNEP. The consultant will play a significant role in project portfolio management and programmatic coordination, contributing to the effective implementation of strategies aimed at improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy in developing countries. This role requires a deep understanding of climate change mitigation strategies and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathways. The consultant will assist the Chief of Branch in managing projects and ensuring that the branch's goals are met efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Contractor include providing support in overall project portfolio management and programmatic coordination. This involves assisting in the development and implementation of project plans, monitoring progress, and ensuring alignment with UNEP's strategic objectives. The consultant will be responsible for facilitating knowledge generation and sharing, capacity building, and technical assistance to developing countries. Additionally, the role requires strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with international teams and stakeholders, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The consultant will also be expected to demonstrate proficiency in budgeting and excel formulas, contributing to the financial management of projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Management, Environmental Sciences, International Relations, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in programmatic and project management work related to climate change mitigation is required. Previous experience in an international organization is essential, along with strong writing skills and proficiency in budgeting and Excel. Familiarity with UNEP processes and procedures, as well as experience with the UMOJA system, is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s Degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Economics, Business Management, Environmental Sciences, or International Relations. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the objectives of the Mitigation Branch and support climate change mitigation efforts.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in programmatic and project management work specifically related to climate change mitigation and decarbonization efforts. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in international organizations, demonstrating their ability to navigate complex environments and collaborate with diverse teams. Experience with UNEP processes and procedures, as well as familiarity with the UMOJA system, will be considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Strong communication skills are essential, as the consultant will be required to write reports, communicate with stakeholders, and collaborate with international teams. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not specified as mandatory.

The consultancy is expected to last for an initial duration of 6 months. The position is based in Paris, and the consultant will be expected to work full-time.
