The successful candidate will work in the Field Operations Finance Division, focusing on financial procedures, budgeting, and accounting practices. The internship is full-time and in-person, with a hybrid working arrangement at the UN premises in New York. The initial duration is set for 3 months, with the possibility of extension up to 6 months based on organizational needs. Interns will have the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting, contributing to the UN's financial operations while enhancing their understanding of international finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in various tasks, including but not limited to: researching and compiling historical information related to UN mandates and expenditure patterns; ensuring resource requirements align with applicable rules and regulations; participating in budget preparation and consolidation of financial information; monitoring the implementation of UN budgets; identifying variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures; and generating financial information using databases and spreadsheets. These responsibilities will provide interns with hands-on experience in financial management within a global context.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in business, public administration, finance, or a related area. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree must be provided with the application.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in their final university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. The educational background should be relevant to the internship, particularly in fields related to finance, business administration, or public administration. This ensures that interns possess the necessary theoretical knowledge to apply in practical scenarios during their internship.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word is essential. Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
