The primary focus of this internship is to assist in the preparation for the 2025 Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship (RAF) programme. This fellowship aims to provide talented young journalists from developing countries and transitioning economies with a comprehensive understanding of the UN's operations. Interns will engage in various activities, including covering the UN General Assembly and interacting with expert speakers on relevant UN agenda topics. The internship is full-time, requiring a commitment of five days a week, totaling 35 hours, and is expected to last for six months, starting on July 1, 202
The intern will work under the supervision of the RAF Manager and Chief of Unit, contributing to the overall functioning of the Visitors Services Section while gaining valuable experience in international communications and media.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting the RAF Manager in managing the 2025 RAF programme, which includes overseeing social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, and X. Specific duties include developing and posting engaging content, responding to comments and messages from followers, and monitoring social media metrics to analyze performance data. The intern will also assist other units within the VSS with daily operations, which may involve responding to visitor inquiries at the Public Inquiries Counter and supporting the Teach the UN initiative. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed, providing a comprehensive experience in the workings of the UN's outreach efforts.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following qualifications: a) Enrollment in or completion of a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent) or b) Enrollment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level). c) Previous experience in a media outlet, particularly in digital content creation, social media editing, fact-checking, or newsroom assistance is preferred. d) Proficiency in standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel, is required. e) Demonstrated skills in creating content for social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Instagram, and X. f) Familiarity with design and task-management software or online tools such as Canva and Trello is essential. g) A strong interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are necessary. h) The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs is crucial, demonstrating a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a graduate programme or the final year of a bachelor's degree. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the Visitors Services Section and the broader objectives of the UN.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a media-related environment, which may include internships or employment in journalism, communications, or public relations.
