The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) was established in March 2014 at the request of the Government of Ukraine. The mission's primary objective is to monitor and report on the human rights situation in Ukraine, particularly in conflict-affected areas such as eastern Ukraine, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and the city of Sevastopol, which is currently occupied by the Russian Federation. The mission has been actively involved in documenting violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, especially since the escalation of the conflict following the armed attack by the Russian Federation on February 24, 202

Job Overview:
The Data Analyst Volunteer position is designed to support the HRMMU by focusing on the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from Google Analytics and Mailchimp APIs into structured tabular formats. This role is crucial for enhancing the mission's marketing analytics capabilities, as it involves building API connections, creating automated data pipelines, and ensuring the quality and consistency of the data collected. The volunteer will play a significant role in centralizing marketing analytics, which will help reduce manual reporting efforts and provide actionable insights that can inform decision-making processes. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Extract data from Google Analytics and Mailchimp APIs, transforming it into structured formats suitable for analysis.
  • Build and maintain API connections to ensure seamless data flow between platforms.
  • Create automated data pipelines to streamline the reporting process and reduce manual efforts.
  • Ensure data quality and consistency by implementing validation checks and troubleshooting data discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to understand their data needs and provide insights that can enhance their strategies.
  • Document processes and workflows to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of future volunteers.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the HRMMU team to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in data management.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with data visualization tools.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Mailchimp, including understanding their APIs.
  • Strong skills in programming languages such as Python or R for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Knowledge of database management and ETL processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications in data analysis or experience in similar roles will also be considered favorably. Continuous learning and staying updated with the latest trends in data analytics and technology are encouraged.

Experience:
Previous experience in data analysis, particularly in a volunteer or non-profit context, is highly desirable. Familiarity with human rights issues and the operational context of the UN or similar organizations will be an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully managing data projects and delivering actionable insights.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reporting and communication will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Ukrainian or Russian is considered a strong asset, given the local context and the mission's focus on Ukraine.
