Job Overview: The National Internship - Disability Inclusion Intern position at UNFPA Ethiopia is designed to support various program units in ensuring that proposals, program designs, implementations, and evaluations are inclusive of persons with disabilities. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the disability inclusion focal person and program analysts, with indirect supervision from the AYD Program Specialist and overall supervision from the Deputy Representative. The intern will engage in a work-plan that outlines achievements and learning opportunities throughout the internship, with periodic progress meetings to enhance skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate. This role is crucial in promoting disability inclusion within the organization's programs and initiatives, aligning with UNFPA's strategic commitments to gender equality and human rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for supporting the disability inclusion focal person at UNFPA Ethiopia in conducting a disability audit, which includes assessing organizational and service outlet accessibility to identify existing gaps and propose tailored action plans. The intern will assist in the development and implementation of a Disability Inclusion Capacity Development package for UNFPA staff and implementing partners. Collaboration with the communication team will be necessary to enhance the creation of inclusive communication and visibility materials for advocacy and international observances. The intern will also assist during LNOB meetings and other relevant platforms, and perform any additional administrative and operational tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree) and have completed one full academic year, or be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program). Recent graduates who have completed their degree within the last year and can start the internship immediately are also eligible. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in the field of development, possess written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the UN's working languages (English or French), and have fluency in the official language of the UNFPA office. The ability to adapt to new environments and maintain good working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in a first university degree program (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and having completed at least one full academic year, or being enrolled in a postgraduate degree program. Candidates who have recently graduated with a relevant university degree and can start the internship within one year of graduation are also eligible. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Experience: Candidates should have some experience working with development agencies, which may include volunteer work. Strong analytical and writing skills are necessary, along with initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues from various national and cultural backgrounds. This experience will help the intern to effectively contribute to the organization's goals and objectives.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate and collaborate within the diverse environment of UNFPA.
