With a mission to help people and nature thrive, WWF operates in over 100 countries and has a membership of one million in the United States and five million supporters globally. The organization collaborates with communities, companies, and governments to achieve sustainable conservation outcomes, driven by core values of Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Collaboration.
Job Overview: The internship program, known as BRIDGE, was launched in 2021 and is designed to provide paid internship opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. The aim is to attract talented individuals who can bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the environmental sector, particularly those who may not have considered a career in conservation before. The intern will focus on the critical issue of climate change, specifically the impact of the global food system on emissions. The role involves exploring and comparing different frameworks and standards used for agricultural imports to China, addressing the inconsistencies in emissions accounting that affect food importers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will co-design the scope of a quantitative review, selecting specific products and frameworks to study. Responsibilities include reviewing existing frameworks, standards, and models related to greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting for imported products, assessing discrepancies and similarities among the reviewed materials, and summarizing the findings. The intern will work collaboratively with other team members to explore the implications of these findings on climate change and agriculture.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in fields such as economics, food systems, agriculture, data science, ecology, or other quantitative disciplines. Active enrollment as a student is required, and candidates must not have graduated by the internship start date of June 16, 202
Strong quantitative and data analysis skills are essential, along with the ability to read and understand scientific papers. Candidates should align with WWF’s core values and demonstrate courage, integrity, respect, and collaboration in their work.
Educational Background: A minimum of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. Candidates studying outside the specified areas are encouraged to apply, indicating that WWF values diverse educational backgrounds and perspectives.
Experience: While prior professional experience is not required, candidates should possess quantitative and data analysis skills. The internship is particularly aimed at students who have not had extensive professional experience in the field of conservation or related areas.
Languages: While fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of Mandarin or Portuguese is preferred but not required. This could enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the organization's goals.
Additional Notes: The internship is a full-time position, requiring 35 hours of work per week, and is compensated at a rate of $20.50 per hour. The internship will run from June 16, 2025, to August 22, 202
