Job Overview: The Country Representative will play a pivotal role in representing the IDB Group in the Dominican Republic, acting as the primary liaison between the organization and various stakeholders, including government entities, the private sector, civil society, and international cooperation agencies. This position requires a strategic leader who will guide the development of the Country Strategy, ensuring it aligns with the IDB Group's institutional objectives and the specific needs of the country. The representative will lead dialogues on programmatic initiatives, manage resources effectively, and ensure that operations are in line with national priorities. The role also involves overseeing the performance of the Country Office staff and fostering a culture of ethical conduct and respect in the workplace. A key aspect of this position is to develop and implement a communication strategy that enhances knowledge sharing among stakeholders, thereby promoting the IDB Group's mission and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as the main representative of the IDB Group in the Dominican Republic, engaging with government officials, private sector leaders, and civil society to promote the organization's mission.
Lead the development and implementation of the Country Strategy, ensuring alignment with the IDB Group's institutional strategy and compliance with strategic selectivity principles.
Manage and coordinate the operations of IDB Invest and IDB Lab to identify and pursue business opportunities that align with their objectives.
Plan and allocate human and financial resources effectively to support the IDB Group's programs in the country.
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of Country Office staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Ensure adherence to IDB Group policies regarding ethics and workplace conduct.
Develop a comprehensive communication strategy to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among stakeholders.
Identify and promote public-private partnerships to enhance the impact of the IDB Group's initiatives.
Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of development programs and projects financed by the IDB Group. 1
Maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the country's development objectives. 1
Manage risks associated with operations in the country, ensuring the safety of staff and assets. 1
Report regularly to IDB Group Senior Management on program progress, financial status, and compliance with regulations.
Required Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Public Policy, Business, Economics, Law, or a relevant discipline.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams.
Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of establishing trust and credibility with diverse stakeholders.
Strong business acumen and understanding of the culture of multilateral development organizations.
Experience in managing complex scenarios and negotiating solutions to sensitive issues.
Familiarity with the IDB Group's functional areas is advantageous for internal candidates.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Policy, Business, Economics, or Law. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of development finance and policy-making in the context of the IDB Group's mission.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in leadership roles within multilateral development organizations or similar institutions. This experience should include a track record of managing teams, developing strategic initiatives, and engaging with high-level stakeholders. For external candidates, at least three years of experience in a comparable position with another multilateral development organization or development financial institution is required.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Excellent communication skills are essential for effective representation and stakeholder engagement.
Additional Notes: The position is offered as an international staff contract for an initial duration of 36 months, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
