Job Overview: The Protection and Mediation Coordinator plays a crucial role under the supervision of the Project Manager Nashiriki, focusing on the implementation of activities aimed at strengthening social cohesion both horizontally and vertically. This position requires a proactive approach to managing and overseeing project staff, ensuring adherence to NRC policies and strategies, and contributing to the development of project proposals and strategies related to violence protection. The coordinator will manage a delegated portfolio of projects, ensuring high technical quality and compliance with donor requirements, while also providing regular progress reports to the Project Manager. The role involves targeting beneficiaries in need of protection, exploring innovative assistance methods, and promoting necessary improvements in project activities. Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for capacity building of project staff and facilitating key skill transfers, while coordinating support to local authorities and other key stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of the Protection and Mediation Coordinator include supervising field staff within their project portfolio, ensuring compliance with NRC policies and strategies, contributing to the development of protection strategies and project proposals, managing and implementing delegated project portfolios (activities, budget, and documentation), providing regular progress reports to the Project Manager, ensuring projects target the most vulnerable beneficiaries, exploring new assistance methods, promoting ideas for improvement, and ensuring capacity building of project staff. The coordinator will also coordinate material support to administrative and technical land services, liaise with local authorities and key actors, supervise the humanitarian mediation team, plan and implement humanitarian mediation activities, coordinate community mechanisms for conflict prevention and management, oversee community assemblies for social cohesion action plans, conduct risk analyses, assist in supervising early warning systems, analyze feedback data for project improvement, and advocate for the rights of displaced persons.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree (BAC + 5) in conflict prevention and management, development sciences, political science, international relations, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, gender and development, governance, or related fields. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian/development work, social cohesion, humanitarian mediation, conflict management, peacebuilding, and protection is required. At least 2 years of experience in team management is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent writing and communication abilities in French and Swahili, with English being an asset. Previous professional experience in complex, unstable, and volatile contexts is necessary, along with experience in project planning, implementation, and monitoring, technical knowledge of behavior change processes in humanitarian contexts, early warning system management, project coordination, budget management, and multidisciplinary team management. Proficiency in Windows software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is also required, along with the ability to work collaboratively with field staff across various sectors.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree (BAC + 5) in relevant fields such as conflict prevention and management, development sciences, political science, international relations, international law, gender and development, governance, or other related disciplines.
