The organization focuses on sustainable development and aims to improve the quality of life for people globally while providing meaningful tasks for its employees. GIZ is committed to fostering international cooperation and development, making it a significant player in the field of international development assistance.

Job Overview:
The GIZ Representation in Brussels plays a crucial role in observing and assessing the international development landscape within the EU and Brussels. The organization is responsible for representing GIZ in this context, facilitating networking and dialogue between GIZ and EU stakeholders. Interns will be part of a dynamic team that supports various GIZ projects and units in Brussels, providing administrative coherence and assistance in HR and accounting services. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the workings of the European Union and the international development sector, while also developing practical skills in a supportive environment. Interns are expected to be communicative, proactive, and eager to learn, contributing to the team’s success and engaging with various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with observing and analyzing the activities of European Institutions, particularly the European Commission, European Parliament, and the European External Action Service. They will contribute written materials for the bi-weekly newsletter, policy briefs, and reports on topics relevant to GIZ and EU development cooperation. Additionally, interns will assist in organizing and executing events, handling both strategic and logistical aspects. Participation in events and reporting on them will also be part of their responsibilities. Interns will accompany GIZ colleagues during visits to Brussels-based stakeholders, prepare and moderate team meetings, and conduct research tasks for staff and the Director of the Representation. Support for the administration team will also be required, ensuring a comprehensive experience in the operational aspects of GIZ in Brussels.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in a university program, ideally in their third semester or higher, or have graduated no more than six months prior to the internship start date. A background in international relations, development cooperation, social or economic sciences, law, political science, or European Studies is preferred. Fluency in both spoken and written German and English is mandatory, while knowledge of French is considered an advantage. A solid understanding of the functioning of European institutions and basic knowledge of development and international cooperation issues in the European context is essential. Previous practical experience in European institutions is desirable but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a degree in international relations, development cooperation, social or economic sciences, law, political science, European Studies, or a comparable field. Candidates must be currently enrolled as students or have graduated no longer than six months before the internship begins. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical framework to understand the complexities of international development and the workings of the European Union.

Experience:
While prior experience in European institutions is desirable, it is not a strict requirement for this internship. The focus is on candidates who are currently studying or have recently graduated, indicating that the internship is designed to provide practical experience and exposure to the field rather than requiring extensive prior experience.

Languages:
Fluency in German and English is mandatory for this position, as the work will involve communication and documentation in both languages. Knowledge of French is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders within the EU context.

Additional Notes:
