Job Overview: The Associate Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting various infrastructure projects in Zimbabwe, particularly focusing on quality control and assurance for electrical services. This position involves working closely with the Project Manager to ensure that electrical installations meet the required standards, including solar energy components. The engineer will be responsible for reviewing electrical services design work, conducting assessments, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. The role also includes contributing to training documentation and reporting requirements related to electrical works. The job holder will be expected to undertake periodic site visits to project locations, including Masvingo and Bulawayo, to oversee the implementation of electrical services and ensure that all activities are completed to the highest standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Electrical Engineer will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Supporting quality control and assurance for electrical services works, including solar energy components for the Great Zimbabwe Development Project (GZDP).
Assisting in the assessment and review of electrical services design work for the incinerators project.
Conducting quality control activities for electrical installations, including stage testing and verification of activities.
Completing sign-offs for the GZDP works and ensuring compliance with project specifications.
Contributing to the review of training documentation as required for project implementation.
Assisting in the reporting requirements for electrical works associated with the projects.
Undertaking periodic site visits to Masvingo and Bulawayo to monitor project progress and ensure quality standards are met.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school diploma as a minimum requirement. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering is preferred and can substitute for additional years of experience. Candidates should have a strong background in electrical engineering, particularly in the context of infrastructure projects. The role requires a combination of technical expertise and practical experience in electrical installations and project management.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a secondary school diploma as a baseline. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is highly desirable and may substitute for additional years of required experience. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform effectively in the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of six years of professional experience in the Electrical Engineering field if they only possess a secondary school certificate. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor's degree should have at least two years of relevant professional experience. Experience supervising electrical installations for vertical infrastructure construction works is essential, along with experience in solar power installations and oversight of electrical installations at construction sites. Additional experience in general electrical engineering and solar power installation works at the national level will be considered an advantage.
Languages: Full working knowledge of English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is a Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA), specifically at the Local ICA Support-6 level, with a duration of 10 months. It is important to note that retainer positions are not full-time and may involve ad-hoc requests from UNOPS project teams. Candidates should be prepared to complete mandatory courses before providing services to UNOPS, and these courses will not be compensated.
