The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator of the Terrorism Prevention Branch. The primary focus of this internship is to support the UNODC's efforts in counter-terrorism, particularly in the legal and criminal justice aspects. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the development and implementation of technical assistance tools aimed at enhancing the capacity of Member States to address terrorism. This role is crucial in supporting the UN's Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and involves collaboration with other UN organizations and regional programs. The internship is full-time, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week, and is expected to last for three to four months, with the possibility of extension based on departmental needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting reviews on criminal justice aspects of terrorism prevention, focusing on West Africa; contributing to the creation of background documents, presentations, briefing notes, summaries, talking points, and speeches; assisting in the organization of national and regional technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events, and conferences; attending meetings and taking notes as required; supporting the program's outreach efforts through the preparation of social media posts and web stories; and performing other related tasks as necessary. This role is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in the field of counter-terrorism and criminal justice, while also contributing to the UNODC's mission.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be considered for this internship. They should be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Alternatively, candidates who have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) are also eligible. Official written proof from the university supporting one of these qualifications must be attached to the application. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
