Job Overview:
The Consultant position focuses on supporting the Conference Support Section (CSS) of the Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB) by uploading legislative provisions and case law related to organized fraud onto the SHERLOC knowledge management portal. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that at least 400 legislative entries and 15 cases are uploaded in English, thereby enhancing the accessibility of legal information related to transnational organized crime. This role is crucial for the dissemination of information regarding the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its protocols. The consultant will also support presentations of SHERLOC to Member States and individual contributors, thereby promoting the use of this important tool in combating organized crime.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Upload a minimum of 400 legislative entries and 15 cases related to organized fraud onto the SHERLOC portal in English.
  • Collaborate with the OCB/CSS Chief and Programme Manager to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the uploaded content.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of legislation and case law to ensure compliance with UNTOC provisions.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of presentations on SHERLOC to Member States and stakeholders.
  • Engage with contributors and users of the SHERLOC portal to gather feedback and improve the platform.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in international law, particularly in relation to organized crime and fraud.
  • Support the overall objectives of the UNODC in promoting legal frameworks against transnational organized crime.

Required Qualifications:
- An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international law, criminal law, or a related field is required. - A first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. - Limited experience in legal analysis and research, particularly in crime prevention and criminal justice, is required. - Experience with knowledge management portals and legal databases is essential. - Previous work experience in international organizations and supporting intergovernmental processes is desirable. - Familiarity with website content management systems is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, international law, criminal law, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of international law and the specific legal frameworks related to organized crime.

Experience:
The position requires limited experience in the analysis of legislation and legal research, preferably in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice, with a focus on organized crime or closely related issues. Previous experience working with knowledge management portals, such as legal databases, is required. Additionally, experience in international organizations and supporting intergovernmental processes is desirable, as it provides valuable insights into the workings of global governance and legal frameworks.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required for this position. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, making proficiency in these languages beneficial for effective communication within the organization.
