Job Overview: The MEAL Assistant will play a crucial role in the Karamoja Strong consortium, which includes DRC and other partner organizations. This position is designed to ensure that the project adheres to monitoring and evaluation standards, contributing to the overall accountability and quality of the project. The MEAL Assistant will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive monitoring-assessment system, conducting baseline assessments, and facilitating quarterly project reviews. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that the project meets its objectives while also documenting lessons learned and best practices. The MEAL Assistant will also be involved in training project staff on accountability standards and ensuring compliance with DRC's Code of Conduct and protection protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities: The MEAL Assistant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Implementing DRC guidance for MEAL and fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
Supporting capacity building and training for program staff to enhance field monitoring capabilities.
Leading the consolidation and review of project output values in the Indicator Tracking Table (ITT).
Conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection, including training enumerators and supervising data collection efforts.
Analyzing and visualizing data using tools like QGIS.
Supporting the implementation of community engagement mechanisms for feedback and accountability.
Facilitating after-action reviews and presenting MEAL findings to stakeholders.
Ensuring compliance with data handling and ethical standards, including GDPR and CHS.
Performing other duties as directed by the Line Manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as international development, social sciences, or statistics. A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably within non-governmental organizations or the humanitarian sector, is required. Candidates should have experience with data collection tools and a solid understanding of Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS). Strong skills in data analysis and quality control, as well as the ability to engage with partners, are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate facilitation and training skills, the ability to work under pressure, and proficiency in MS Office applications.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, which may include international development, social sciences, or statistics. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of monitoring and evaluation in humanitarian contexts and for effectively analyzing data related to project outcomes.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in monitoring and evaluation, ideally within non-governmental organizations or the humanitarian sector. Experience in using data collection tools and working in monitoring and evaluation of relevant program sectors is crucial. Familiarity with the challenges of working in insecure environments is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Additionally, the ability to speak the local language is considered a valuable asset, as it can enhance communication with community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is a full-time role with a contract length of 12 months, based in Karamoja. The start date is as soon as possible. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national employees.
