Job Overview: The Shelter and Settlement Assistant will play a crucial role in providing administrative and technical support within the Shelter and Settlement sector in Rural Damascus. This position involves assisting the Shelter and Settlement officer in ensuring the quality of planning, implementation, and follow-up of sector activities. The responsibilities include conducting pre-assessments for shelters, schools, and infrastructure, monitoring ongoing rehabilitation works, and documenting progress. The role also requires compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines, contributing to the development of country strategies, and providing technical guidance to country operations. The Shelter and Settlement Assistant will be integral in ensuring effective delivery of emergency and regular shelter, cash grants, and rehabilitation of housing and community infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Shelter and Settlement Assistant include conducting pre-assessments for schools, shelters, apartments, and WASH infrastructure. The assistant will be responsible for drawing sketches related to rehabilitation activities, including AutoCAD drawings for selected buildings and facilities. They will take photographs of proposed work sites, conduct monitoring visits during implementation, perform head counting, and carry out quality surveys with DRC beneficiaries. Additionally, the assistant will supervise and monitor the distribution of equipment and furniture, and submit accurate material prices from the market to the Project Officers on a quarterly basis. Other tasks may be assigned by the direct manager and Shelter Manager as needed.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in the construction domain, along with a university degree in Engineering, specifically Civil Engineering or Architecture. Candidates should have experience following standard procedures and guidelines, particularly for shelter and WASH projects. Knowledge of renewable and durable power projects for shelter, WASH, and productive community projects is also advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in Engineering, with a focus on Civil Engineering or Architecture, to qualify for this position.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in the construction field, demonstrating familiarity with standard procedures and guidelines applicable to shelter and WASH projects. Experience in renewable and durable power projects is considered a plus.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, and proficiency in English is also required. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not specified as a requirement.
