Job Overview: The Environment Officer position is a critical role within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD) at ADB. This role involves providing technical and operational support to the Environment group under CCSD's policy and strategy work, fund management, technical assistance projects, and knowledge generation and management activities. The Environment Officer will engage in various tasks, including conducting research and analysis, contributing to flagship programs, preparing briefing notes and presentations, assisting in data collection, and supporting operations related to environmental strategies and thematic areas. The position requires a proactive approach to addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices across ADB's initiatives. The Environment Officer will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure effective implementation of environmental programs and policies, thereby contributing to ADB's mission of fostering prosperity in Asia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Environment Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Policies, Strategies, and Frameworks: Conducting general research to support the development and mainstreaming of environmental policies and strategies across various themes and sectors. Assisting in the preparation of briefing notes and presentations for senior staff and management, and monitoring progress on ADB's strategic priorities related to environmental initiatives. Tracking key global and regional environmental issues and frameworks.
Support to Technical Assistance (TA) Activities and Environment Programs: Assisting in the preparation and administration of technical assistance and key programs, including processing TAs, consultant selection, reviewing outputs, and facilitating coordination of TA activities. Preparing progress reports, briefing notes, and completion reports while ensuring smooth implementation of activities.
Knowledge Management and Partnership: Supporting the organization of knowledge events such as seminars and workshops, providing technical inputs for knowledge materials, and coordinating with internal and external partners for information exchange. Building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders, including UN organizations and NGOs.
Operational Support: Contributing to the preparation and updating of work plans and accomplishment reports, assessing resource requirements, and participating in internal working groups. The Environment Officer will play a vital role in ensuring that ADB's environmental initiatives are effectively managed and communicated.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Environment Officer position will possess a Bachelor's degree in fields such as environment, economics, engineering, social science, policy, or related disciplines, with a preference for advanced training. Candidates should have at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in environmental management, natural resources management, and project development work. Knowledge of project/program processing and systems in a multilateral organization is advantageous.
